Building a Legacy: The Story and Team Behind the Infinite Safari Foundation

The Story Behind the Infinite Safari Foundation

In 2000, Alan Feldstein and his wife, Diane Haithman, embarked on their first safari in Tanzania. The moment they saw giraffes on their initial game drive, they were captivated—these magnificent animals had them at jambo (Swahili for hello). That safari left a lasting impression, sparking a deep love for Africa’s wildlife and its generous, warm-hearted people.

The couple returned to Africa multiple times, each journey deepening their connection. In 2005, Alan climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and joined Diane to track chimpanzees in the Mahale Mountains. By 2008, Alan had shared his passion with his children, even becoming one of the first to kayak off Tanzania’s coast. It was then that an epiphany struck—he wanted to share the transformative power of Africa with others. The following year, Alan and Diane founded Infinite Safari Adventures.

As their travels brought unforgettable experiences, they also introduced Alan and Diane to remarkable people like Patrick Olepapatiti, a young Maasai man who dreamed of higher education. Alan supported Patrick through his business and MBA studies, enabling him to become the operations director of a successful anti-poaching unit. Together, they built a water well for Patrick’s Maasai community, and during a devastating drought, Alan and Diane raised funds to provide food for over 1,500 people.

These acts of giving inspired the creation of the Infinite Safari Foundation—a way to amplify their impact. Established to support education, conservation, and community projects, the foundation channels a portion of every safari into life-changing efforts. By combining the generosity of clients with the foundation’s mission, Alan and Diane continue to honor the kindness they first encountered in Africa.

Guided by the African proverbs, “Kindness Calls For A Return of Kindness” and “To Give Him That Gave You Is Not Giving, It Is Repaying,” the Infinite Safari Foundation strives to protect wildlife, uplift communities, and preserve the beauty of Africa for generations to come.

Steering Our Mission Forward

The Infinite Safari Foundation is guided by a dedicated Board of Directors, each bringing a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to our mission. Their collective expertise in African wildlife conservation, community engagement, and sustainable development drives our initiatives forward. We invite you to learn more about the individuals leading our efforts to make a lasting impact.

Meet the Board of Directors

  • Alan Feldstein

What began as a single safari transformed into a lifelong passion for Africa’s people, wildlife, and landscapes. Over two decades of exploration and experience in Eastern and Southern Africa, Alan developed a deep commitment to preserving the continent’s natural beauty and supporting its communities. This passion led to the creation of the Infinite Safari Foundation, a platform for meaningful conservation and humanitarian initiatives.

As a lawyer turned founder of an African wildlife safari company, Alan combines his professional expertise with his love for adventure to craft extraordinary journeys that connect travelers to Africa’s wonders. Beyond his work, Alan is a dedicated advocate for wildlife conservation and education. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Cheetah Conservation Fund, is President of the Board of The Bird School Project, and sits on the Advisory Board of Over And Above Africa.

A graduate of UCLA and Southwestern University School of Law, Alan is also a proud member of the prestigious Explorer’s Club and the Adventurer’s Club of Los Angeles. Through his leadership and vision, Alan inspires others to join in protecting Africa’s legacy for generations to come.

  • Diane Haithman

Diane’s curiosity and love for exploration were the spark that ignited Infinite Safari Adventures. When her husband, Alan Feldstein, asked where in the world she wanted to go, Diane’s answer—“I’ve always wanted to go on safari in Africa”—set the course for a journey that would evolve into a shared mission. That life-changing first trip not only inspired the creation of Infinite Safari Adventures but also laid the foundation for the Infinite Safari Foundation. Diane’s unique perspective on people and places helped her see the generosity of African communities, where individuals “have nothing but are willing to share.”

A graduate of the University of Michigan, Diane’s storytelling talents have shaped her career as a journalist, author, and educator. She has served on the faculty of Emerson College and as a staff writer for the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Business Journal, and The Wrap. Diane is a contributor to two books—The Elder Wisdom Circle Guide for a Meaningful Life and A Voice From the Planet, an anthology featuring global writers, including voices from Africa. Proceeds from the anthology benefit Doctors Without Borders. She is also the author of the novel Dark Lady of Hollywood, a witty exploration of the television industry and Shakespearean drama.

Through her vision and passion, Diane continues to inspire others to experience the beauty of Africa and join the Foundation’s efforts to give back to the communities and wildlife that make it so extraordinary.

  • Bella Kaluwa

Born and raised in Malawi, Bella’s love for the travel industry was sparked at a young age, accompanying her father, an executive in the cargo business, on his journeys. While he envisioned her following in his footsteps, Bella’s heart was drawn to people, not freight. This passion led her into a thriving career in the travel industry, where she has excelled for over 25 years. Bella’s warmth and enthusiasm for Africa are infectious, and her favorite response to anyone saying, “Africa is on my bucket list” is always, “Let’s go!”

Fluent in Zulu and other Bantu languages, Bella’s expertise spans domestic and international ticketing, reservations management with British Airways and Emirates Airlines, tour operations, and lodge management in Africa’s iconic bush landscapes. She specializes in creating unforgettable experiences, from family vacations and honeymoons to high-end luxury safaris.

With a deep appreciation for close-knit family values, Bella extends the same welcoming spirit to everyone she meets, making them feel like part of her inner circle. Her dedication, charm, and unparalleled passion for showcasing the beauty of Africa inspire travelers to experience its wonders with open hearts.

A Few of Our Projects

With donations and other generous contributions we are able to assist humanitarian and conservation projects that are so important and necessary to protect wildlife, help the people and preserve the beauty that is Africa.

Here are just a few of the projects we’ve been able to support through the Infinite Safari Foundation.

  • The Amani Foundation

Through a chance encounter at an Explorer’s Club event, Alan was able to connect with Kate Thompson founder and Executive Director of the Amani Foundation. This foundation was set up to address a critical need in Tanzania. In Tanzania, it’s often poverty—not the absence of living or loving relatives that leads to children being placed in orphanages.

Amani mission is to change that dynamic. This is done through a variety of initiatives to educate children and support their families. Many families in northern Tanzania face difficult choices about their children's welfare when economic means are insufficient. The Amani Foundation utilizes a three-fold approach. First, they conduct critical research into the social consequences (e.g. family breakdown) and their links to human-ecosystem interactions. Second, they create sustainable economic opportunities—through programs like the Livestock Exchange Program—that empower parents to generate reliable incomes, lifting families out of poverty and enabling them to provide for their children. Finally, Amani Initiatives delivers tailored support to vulnerable children in their communities, ensuring they have access to education, healthcare, and emotional care.

Infinite Safari Foundation provides financial support to this wonderful Foundation so that can continue and expand the critical work that they do.

  • Solio Ranch Conservancy

Through his work with Saving the Survivors, Alan Feldstein was introduced to Kevin Carr Hartley the manager of the Solio Ranch Conservancy. It was love at first sight. Nestled between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains, Solio Ranch is famous for its pioneering rhino conservation efforts and is home to the second-largest private rhino population globally. It has bred and translocated over 145 rhinos, making it a cornerstone of rhino conservation in Africa. In addition, it is a great partner and supporter with the local communities.

But it has challenges with orphaned and injured rhino and other wildlife. Through the support of several partners including the Infinite Safari Foundation, Solio has built a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic and has constructed a world class rhino orphanage to take care of abandoned baby rhinos and other wildlife. With dedicated care givers who are with their young wards 24/7 Solio has been able to save baby orphaned rhinos and put them back into the wild.

In addition, the Infinite Safari Foundation has supported Solio’s Women’s Empowerment Program. Guided by Jen Carr-Hartley, this initiative was created to provide opportunities for women from the surrounding areas to learn new skills, earn an income, and build confidence in a supportive environment. One of the core initiatives of the Solio Women’s Empowerment Project is the production of washable sanitary pad kits. These reusable kits provide a simple, sustainable solution to a challenge faced by many girls and women in the surrounding communities.

  • Majakusi Academy Pre-School

There is a community near Amboseli National Park that is very near and dear to us. It is where we have built a water well, fed them during the drought and helped them when their homes were flooded by torrential rains after the drought. Yes, climate change is real.

Recently members of the community have started a pre-school for their kids. They realize how important education is. Part of that realization stems from them seeing how we changed Patrick’s life by giving him an education and now they want to do more.

They have started the Majakusi Academy Pre-School. They asked the Foundation for our help, and we could not say no. Thus, we have funded their ability to buy books and other supplies for the school. We will keep you posted on the school’s progress but take satisfaction in the fact that we are helping give these kids a start for a brighter future.
